Church Hill Walk

A guided walk to the Algarve Church Hill, near S.B. Messines, following a section of the well known via Algarviana walking route.
We set off at 6pm, guided by Cheryl, on the 6km walk following the panoramic lake Funcho to the iconic “church hill”. On the hill, a large picture-tiled plaque depicts the historic 1834 Sant’Ana battle.  This shows the army positions and the site where they erected a field hospital.

We also have a very credible number of birds at this inland area and during one of Vita Nativa’s visits at Figs on the Funcho (an association whose aim is to develop conservation and environmentally sustainable projects), they identified 41 different bird species in less than 2 hours so there’s more to find by our birdwatching walkers! See the bird check list for the full list of birds spotted at Figs on the Funcho.

After admiring the gorgeous landscape with panoramic views of the scenery we will return to Figs on the Funcho to enjoy an evening meal (vegetarian meal) on the waterfront deck. Those who do not wish to join the walk can arrive later for the evening meal. The walk will take about 1h15 and it is an easy walk.
